While this area is still very car dependent for running the majority of errands, it also boasts a walking trail along the Chinook Parkway which borders the Elmwood Golf Course, and travels underneath North Hill Drive to take you to Riverdene Park and a stroll alongside the Swift Current Creek. A pedestrian bridge takes you across the Creek and lets you continue along the Parkway, or you can use the stairs located across from the bridge, to wind your way back into the North Hill neighbourhood to home.

History:

Bordering Mt. Pleasant Burial Park, the city’s oldest cemetery, this cemetery showcases a timeline of the City of Swift Current’s history with some of its more notable citizen interred there, and through its dedicated area that pays homage to Swift Current veterans who fought in WW I and WW II and beyond. Those interested in learning more about the City’s history can take a stroll through the cemetery at their leisure or join one of the summer-time tours offered by the Swift Current Museum.

This neighbourhood also features the historic Billy the Buffalo Park, which was featured in a 1979 National Film Board (NFB) documentary called “Give’em a Half Turn” which documents the journey of Billy Buffalo, a wooden playground structure by Saskatchewan artist Russel Yuristy, as it travelled across Saskatchewan to its home in Swift Current’s North Hill neighbourhood. Sadly the sculpture only stood for three months before being burned to the ground by vandals on Halloween, resulting in over $75,000 in damages. The sculpture was rebuilt the following year in concrete, but was taken down in 2007 to make way for the modern play structure that families enjoy today.
