Walk Score: 6

As a newly developed area, located within the borders of the Elmwood Golf Course this neighbourhood requires driving for all errands, but is walking or golf cart driving distance to the golf course itself.

History:

More than a century old, the Elmwood Golf Course started in 1919 as the Swift Current Golf Club and was renamed to the Elmwood Golf Club in 1920. Originally a private 9-hole course situated closer to the Ashley Park area, the course is now comprised of 18 holes and its clubhouse lies closer to its new Cypress Point housing development. In 2019 the club held a 100th Anniversary celebration, which featured one of its most accomplished alumnae, Jack McDonald, who is a Saskatchewan Golf Hall of Fame inductee, a former employee of the Elmwood from 1959-69, and a former president of the British Columbia Golf Association, while also officiating at the Master, the U.S. Open and the President’s Cup.

As part of its 100 year celebrations, the course recently underwent a redesign, conducted by Golf Design Services (GDS) and Les Furber, with 18 brand new greens and 10 newly designed and challenging holes to play.

Fun Fact: The current Elmwood Golf Course clubhouse was once the Federal Wildlife Interpretation Centre located near Webb and was moved to its current location in 1991. It was best known for its exhibits of taxidermied gophers, and was known to area residents as Gopherville!
